Antique Inkwell Asian Japanese Ink Box Marked KYOTO Fu Dog Metal 19th Century

Marked on bottom 京都 ("Kyoto").

Lid has a decorated engraving and it's marked- 太少師- which means large and small lion. These lions are familiarly called fu dogs. words are written in older style- from right to left.

There is no silver mark, could be silver or low grade silver.

The inkwell dates ~ mid 19th century, the Chinese fu dog motif was very popular in Japan in those years.

Lid has a tight fit; the original slate inside the lid is intact; few marks but overall excellent condition!
